Custom LookOut
This service provides privileged information on Chinese patent filings by
the Chinese Academy of Sciences within the 12 month priority window under
the PCT.
Information is supplied to subscribing members for their internal
evaluation purposes only and is not to be used for publication in any
form or dissemination to third parties without express consent of CTC.

Terms of Service:
Upon subscription, members execute a confidentiality agreement limiting
the intent and use for the results of the search to corporate use for
evaluation purposes only. All information supplied is to remain
confidential for a period of one year from date of receipt.
Field of interest and 5 keywords:
Members are limited to one field of interest for each custom lookout
subscription. The field of interest is to be chosen from one of the
following categories:
- Agriculture / Biotechnology / Environment / Chemical Engineering
- Lasers / Photonics / Manufacturing / Energy
- Medical / Pharmaceuticals / Biotechnology
- Testing & Measurement / Manufacturing / Energy
The actual search will be conducted based on the keywords supplied.
Members are responsible for the choice of the keywords. If the keywords
result in null searches, over a period of three months, members will be
so notified and new keywords may be substituted for the custom lookout.
Preliminary Reports:
From time to time, as Custom lookout yields positive searches, CTC shall
so inform the member of the search and supply the information in the
following format:
- Title of invention
- Abstract of invention

If the member expresses interest in the invention, then CTC shall acquire
more background information from the inventor for evaluation purposes.
This shall constitute a brief background to the invention as well as a
brief description of the capabilities of the invention without revealing
any proprietary part of the invention. In all cases, the identity of the
inventor and the institute shall remain anonymous.
Detailed Evaluation & Phase I Negotiation Service:
Should the member express deep interest in an item and wish to proceed to
negotiating over acquiring rights to the invention or joint development,
then members shall execute a not-for-disclosure agreement specific to the
project and retain CTC as a negotiating agent for the acquisition. The
Custom Lookout membership fee entitles members to two free Phase I
Evaluations & Negotiations. This covers the time & cost in communications
and preparation of reports, but does not cover testing, sample preparation,
transportation, & other expenses.
Beyond Phase I Negotiation:
CTC shall be the negotiating agent for the member and shall charge a
retainer fee for the services. The fees are determined on a case by
case basis, and are negotiable at each stage. Upon conclusion of an
acquisition deal, CTC shall also receive a commission.
Anonymity & Non-Circumvention:
Strict anonymity is maintained throughout the Custom Lookout and possible
subsequent negotiating process. Should circumstances require the identity
of the inventor source in China, members shall execute a non-circumvention
agreement valid for 3 years.
Refund Policy:
Should the keywords, including the modified keywords during the year, lead
to negative lookout results, CTC shall refund 60% of the membership fee at
the end of the year.
