Automatic Metering of Water & Gas Content in Crude Oil Using Gamma Ray Absorption and Scattering Techniques Introduction Many methods are available for measuring the water content in crude oil, such as; sampling distillations, capacitance measurements, radio frequency transmissions, vibration density meters, etc. These methods have some serious shortcomings including lack of durability, measurement cell contamination, and poor precision.
Our Technology We have designed an automatic metering apparatus for water and gas contents in crude oil. It was designed on the principle of gamma ray absorption and scattering in materials.Our apparatus contains one low energy gamma ray source and two detectors with a scintillator, which is used to identify gamma transmission and scattering intensity respectively, when gamma rays pass through the crude oil flowing through a pipe.
