Steel-water Heat Pipe Employing Hydrogen Oxidation Techniques Introduction Steel-water heat pipes are efficient heat conducting elements widely used in the industry. Air preheaters using such elements find extensive use in boilers and industrial kilns. Because of the chemical incompatibility between steel and water however, they have the disadvantage of short service lives.
Our Technology In the present technology, the oxidizing agent is disposed of within the cavity in the condenser portion of the heat pipe. The oxidizing agent consists of a substance which reacts with hydrogen gas to form water. The technology developed by our scientists overcomes this problem and prolongs significantly the service life. At the same operating temperature, a steel-water heat pipe using hydrogen removal technologybased on oxidation has twice the service life of conventional steel-water heat pipes. A Comparison of the Technology This new type of heat pipe can replace any conventional steel-water heat pipe in many fields of heat transfer. The manufacturing cost ofsteel-water heat pipes using this technology is increased by nearly 10%, but the service life compared to others is twice as long.
