New PSA Method for Increased Hydrogen Recovery from Ammonia Synthesis
For Reduced Impurities in Recovered Hydrogen


Introduction

Hydrogen recovery is a by-product of ammonia synthesis in fertilizer factories. The common methods for the recovery are: palladium membrane diffusion, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), separation at lowtemperature and hollow fabric membrane osmosis. Considering the technology and its economic value, PSA was the most widely used in the industry. However, the PSA method had a few problems.

For example, the equipment was complicated, the gas needed treatment in advance, and it had a low rate of hydrogen recovery.

Our Technology

Our invention provides a new PSA technology using carbon sieve sorbent to overcome these defects mentioned above.

  • The equipment investment is only about 60% of that of previous PSA technology.

  • Under the same purity conditions, the hydrogen rate of recovery is increased by 15 to 20%.

    Features of Our Technology

    Our new hydrogen recovery method contains the following features:

  • The utilization rate of the sorbent in our invention is 100%, however in previous PSA methods the rate was only 60-70%.

  • In our new-type PSA equipment, gas flows through the sorbent in the same direction thus the sorbent is very stable and does not require special pressing treatment.

  • The equipment can be run continuously with maximum stability. Investment in the equipment is only 60-70% of that of previous PSA technology.
