New Catalyst for the Production of Acrolein Acid A Propeneless Approach Introduction Acrolein has traditionally been produced by propene as a starting material, but with the high price of propene and the increasing availability of propane from oil and gas exploration,acrolein synthesis by selective oxidation of propane over various catalysts is of growing importance and of visible economic value.So far, however, the reported highest yield to acrolein in the oxidation process is only 8%. Our Technology Using a new multi-component metal oxide catalyst, our invention provides oxidation of propane to acrolein, with a selectivity and yield of acrolein at 52.8% and 16.7% respectively.
Uses of Acrolein Our catalyst is prepared by the co-precipitation method. The oxidation reaction is carried out in a fixed bed reactor, over various catalysts, under mild reaction conditions.After the separation of acrolein from the tail gas, the remainder tail gas can be recycled into the reactor and reused again.
